Faculty in Cornell’s Department of Art are invited to exhibit work at the Johnson every few years, providing an opportunity for both the university community and the broader public to reflect on the relationship between education and practice. Cornell’s art faculty are deeply engaged in studio-based teaching and strive to develop students into confident and independent artists in their own right.
Following a series of studio and collection visits this summer, each faculty has selected a work from the Museum’s permanent collection to pair with their own contribution, demonstrating how many other makers, collections, and encounters exist alongside an artist’s own practice, giving new dimension to each in conversation.
This exhibition was organized by Annie Abernathy, curatorial assistant at the Johnson Museum.
