This Nasca slit-woven tapestry textile fragment is one complete loom width, with selvedges (woven edges) along both sides. The fringed bottom border was woven separately and stitched to the bottom of the main border panel. The central panel of the textile has a vibrant red background color with 3 1/2 figures in a row. Each figure consists of a central anthropomorphic (or monkey) figure set inside a diamond-shaped lozenge, surrounded by 6 bird heads in a complex scrolled pattern. Above and below the row of figures are a series of mirror-imaged stripes arranged in rows as follows: dark brown, gold, dark brown, pink and red jaquard woven stripe with alternating faces and birds, dark brown, gold, dark brown.
