Bourke-White’s photographs were part of a broader national conversation that examined the promise (…)
Bourke-White’s photographs were part of a broader national conversation that examined the promise of American life for immigrants, exposed economic failure at home, and explored Fascism abroad. During the 1930s, images and text often encouraged a return to what was understood as “basic values” and represented an attempt to understand the nature of American culture and promise.
