These pages might have once been part of a Devimahatmya (Glory of the Goddess) manuscript, which relates the victory of Devi, through her warrior form Durga, over the demon Mahisha. At the upper left, a king worships Devi, while at the lower left, Garuda, messenger of the Hindu gods, meets with Devi, possibly imploring her to intervene on their behalf and slay the demons. The three scenes at right show Durga riding her tiger vehicle and battling various demons, including the buffalo-headed Mahisha.
