A master of creating joyous scenes of sparkling light, Maurice Prendergast spent his career recording people at leisure in oil, watercolor, and monotype. In his occasional landscape, though quieter, he captures the same sense of a timelessness and boundless serenity. His brother’s frame is the perfect foil for the painting.
