In the climactic episode of the Hindu epic Ramayana, the evil King Rawana goes to war against Rama and his monkey army. Rawana’s reluctant but loyal defender is his powerful giant brother Kumbakarna, who has been awakened from a long sleep. Kumbakarna, the large figure in the center of this cloth, battles the monkeys Hanuman, on his left, and on his right, Anggada, who throws a rock. In the left lower corner, the clowns Twalen and Delem are fighting, while in the right lower corner Merdah wrestles with Sangut. These comical antics are unrelated to the story.
