Usually a man steeped in Balinese traditions will outline in pencil the characters and motifs to be embroidered by a woman. In the Negara area, such a man is a woodcutter named I Wayang Putra; the female members of his family do the actual embroidering. This is one of his drawings, before the embroidery has been done.
