Umbul-umbul pennants are attached to the top of a very long, thin, curving bamboo pole. These are used to mark the entrances to villages and temple when special ceremonies are taking place. Usually either plain white or yellow, this pennant contains an exquisitely embroidered naga, a mythical serpent or dragon, which would appear to fly when the wind blows.
