Made of homespun cotton, this type of talismanic vest functioned to protect the wearer from harm of either physical or supernatural origin. It displays drawings of monks with hands over their eyes in a meditational pose that signifies the closing-up of the five openings of the body, along with images of the Buddha, wild boars, peacocks, tigers, and mythical lion guardians called singha. Yantra – mystical diagrams and incantations – are also included for the protective powers they are believed to contain.
