The two holes in this Manteño round ceramic medallion were used for inserting a carrying strap or cord. The medallion has burnished red slip decoration and a raised-relief animal design. The animals have long tails and spotted, rounded bodies with long snouts full of sharp, pointed teeth. Both appear to have long objects (worms or snakes?) dangling from their mouths, and small pointed ears Although it has no handle, this medallion may also have been used as a stamp or seal.
