Inscribed: Mohamed al Husaini al Masakin al Kazmi(possibly the name of a Shi’ite imam)The twelfth to fourteenth centuries saw a tremendous production of tiles by Kashan potters for the decoration of secular and religious buildings, especially funerary monuments. The decoration of these tiles consists of inscriptions in relief against a background of cobalt blue that refer to Shi’ite imams. The tiles would have originally decorated a mosque or shrine and been part of a vast tiled wall surface.
