Inscription: Mossy rocks clean after rainShadows of bamboo wavingMemories of sailing on the Xiang RiverWine, autumn, and the cry of partridges Zhang Xin left his home in Hangzhou to travel to Japan where, from 1782 to 1788, he lived in the Nagasaki Mountain Hostel in the Japanese port-city of Nagasaki. Composed during his stay in Japan, this painting was executed with a spontaneous, ink-wash style. The use of the light and dark inks delicately creates a sense of depth.
