Women in kimono are taking turns to enter the small entrance to a tearoom. The entrance is designed as a crawlway (nijiriguchi) to remind guests that everyone is equal in a tearoom, and that they should let go of worldly egos upon entering. Before going in, guests will cleanse their mouth and hands at a tsukubai washbasin, seen at the lower right. In the upper right corner, a bamboo whisk is placed in a tea bowl, and a bamboo tea scoop rests on a lacquer tea caddy. This is the standard arrangement of tea utensils in Japanese tea ceremony.
