As a practitioner of ecologically driven art, Patricia Johanson creates paintings, drawings, and large-scale artistic interventions that have a profoundly positive effect on local ecosystems and biodiversity. Color Landscape (Gaeana Festiva) is part of a large number of colorful project drawings that illustrate Johanson’s plans for massive earth sculptures, gardens, and fountains that bring nature to urban centers and allow wildlife to flourish. Taking on the shape of a cicada wing, the titular Gaeana Festiva, this color landscape illustrates the artist’s fusion of nature and beauty in all of her work. –Alex Basler (“Shifting Ground,” curated by undergraduate members of Cornell’s History of Art Majors’ Society, with oversight by Leah Sweet and Brittany R.
