A migrant farm worker from the American South, Inez Nathaniel found her way to New York’s Finger Lakes region around 1950. In the early 1970s, she served time at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, where she began to draw. This work dates to a time after her release, when she had remarried and her work was represented by Webb and Parsons Gallery in Bedford. Though she continued to draw for the rest of her life, the artist retreated from society in 1980.
