Join us for the keynote lecture of the Trans/Pater 2025 conference, hosted in part by the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University. All are welcome at this free public event.
The keynote, “Pater’s Crossings-Out: Inscriptions of Transition in The Renaissance,” will be delivered by Dr. Hilary Fraser, Emerita Geoffrey Tillotson Chair of Nineteenth-Century Studies at Birkbeck, University of London.
The lecture will explore the significance of Victorian art and literary critic Walter Pater’s writings for both the literary and the visual arts for at least half a century after the publication of his influential book, The Renaissance: Studies in Art and Poetry. An installation of related artworks from the Johnson Museum’s collection will be on view in the Richard Sukenik ’59 Teaching Gallery (also on Floor 2L).
A reception will follow the talk, with an opportunity to view the installation.
