Come learn about the important role of textiles in both art and storytelling. After viewing and discussing artworks such as quilts and an egúngún regalia in the Johnson Museum’s collection, educator and artist Leanora Mims will lead a workshop to create quilt art books, made of paper and fabric in the studio. These books will combine sewing, collage, and textile crafts.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and open to participants age 14 years and older. Space is limited. Please note that the afternoon session is for Cornell students only.
This workshop is part of the Johnson Museum’s Art and Wellness series, made possible by a generous member of the Museum’s Advisory Council. Through art-making, participants can develop mindfulness skills to reduce stress and bolster their mental well-being. This workshop was also made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
