Dr. Lisa Trever, the Lisa and Bernard Selz Associate Professor of Pre-Columbian Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, will illuminate the archaeological context of the exhibition Fernando “Huanchaco” Gutierrez: Checán Stereo.
Dr. Trever is a specialist in the art history and archaeology of what is now considered Latin America, with a research focus on the ancient art and architecture of the Pacific coast of South America. Here she will present very recent research as well as provide historical references and cultural background on the Moche culture of modern-day Peru that Fernando “Huanchaco” Gutierrez references in his work.
All are encouraged to visit the exhibition in the wing gallery on Floor 2L prior to the lecture, which will also be live streamed (the link will be posted here). The exhibition will also be open after the program during a public reception, free and open to all.
The Findlay Family Lecture is funded by a generous gift from the Findlay Family Foundation.
