In conjunction with the Johnson Museum’s recent acquisition of a pastel by Anna Tonelli (Italian, ca. 1763–1846), Portrait of Amelia and Harriet Harding-Newman of Nelmes, Essex, at their Music Lesson (ca. 1800), this free lecture and concert offers a glimpse into women’s participation in both art and music-making in late eighteenth-century England. The program features repertoire composed or favored by women of the time, performed on the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards’ 1799 London Broadwood fortepiano and a Clementi Square piano from the Sigal Music Museum in Greenville, South Carolina. The event will also be live streamed (click here to join the webinar).
Cosponsored by the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards and made possible in part through the generosity of the Latella Family.
