This exhibition of photographs by Lauren Greenfield investigates teenage girls’ relationship to their bodies and the way the female body has become an expression of the conflicting messages to girls in contemporary culture. The images delve into the connection between girls’ inner lives and emotional development, and the material world and popular culture. Exploring the exhibitionist nature of modern femininity, Greenfield’s young women exemplify the sense that a female’s appearance is the primary expression of her worth and thus an ongoing project for improvement. This exhibition is organized and circulated by the Center for Creative Photography, University of Arizona.
