Join writer, sex educator, and activist Susie Bright for a gallery talk in conjunction with the exhibition Berenice Abbott: Portraits of Women, 1925–1930.

From 1984 to 1991, Bright was the editor of On Our Backs, a pioneering magazine of lesbian sexuality that published photographs by some of the most celebrated queer photographers of the 1980s and ’90s. Berenice Abbott’s portraits of women, many who lived openly as queer in Paris, were a major influence on many of these photographers, including Honey Lee Cottrell (1946–2015) and Tee Corinne (1943–2006). This exhibition brings together a selection of Abbott’s portraits of women from the Johnson’s collection for the first time, presented in conjunction with Radical Desire: Making On Our Backs Magazine, which is on view this semester in Kroch Library’s Hirshland Gallery.

Masks are suggested at the Museum and social distancing will be encouraged.
