Tours & Workshops

Bus and group tours are encouraged to enter the Museum through the wing entrance, directly across from the Museum parking lot.

General Public

Tours for the general public are available for $1.50/person for a general Museum tour, and $2.00/adult and $1.50/child for thematic tours.

A hands-on component may also be included for an additional materials fee of $3.00/person.

Cornell Students

Free tours are available for any Cornell student group—organizations, residence halls, sororities/fraternities, or even a group of friends (minimum of 5 students).

Tours may involve a look at some of the highlights of the Museum's collections, or a closer look at any theme that interests your group. We'll work with you to develop a tour that fits your needs and interests.

Hands-on workshops can be scheduled for a $3.00/person fee for materials. In the past we've looked at and created pre-Columbian vessels, Tibetan prayer flags, Islamic tiles, prints, illuminated manuscripts, and much more.

Special Needs

Your School Visit

To schedule a school program at the Johnson, please contact the Coordinator of School and Family Programs at 607 254-4654. Space on the schedule is limited and tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Museum offers programs to schools Tuesdays to Fridays between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. The calendar fills quickly. It is suggested that you book at least one month in advance, and two months in advance for OMNI programs. If your scheduled tour/workshop is delayed or must be cancelled, please call the Museum at 607 255-6464. We appreciate at least 24 hours notice of cancellation.

Please have this information ready when you call or if you have to leave a message:
• Name of contact person
• Daytime phone (or home phone if it is difficult to reach you at school)
• Type of program requested and possible dates/times for your program
• School name, mailing address, and phone number
• Group age, grade, and any special needs your class may have

Fees and Payment: All Museum program fees for schools within the Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES district are BOCES aidable. To find out if your school qualifies for this service, contact your principal or Holly Kazarinoff at BOCES: 607 257-1555 ext. 214.
