The Cornell East Asia Program will host Tong Yangtze (Grace Tong, born 1942), one of Taiwan’s most important avant-garde calligraphers, as the 2020 Wong Chai Lok Calligraphy Fellow at Cornell. In conjunction, the Johnson will exhibit one of Tong’s monumental works: Immortal at the River (2003), a 54-meter long oversize handscroll, written in cursive script, of the poem that forms the preface for the fourteenth-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
