This exhibition will celebrate the primacy of impulse and imagination in the creative process. The title comes from a 1918 letter to the editor of New York’s The Sun by one of the featured artists, Louis Eilshemius, who asked, “Why want a flour out of bananas any way? Are they not best in their natural state? I prefer them so.” So it is with intuitive art: we may enjoy the pictures best as they are.
